5 Stars from Visit England and AA Guide
We’ve been recognised as an Outstanding Restaurant with Rooms with a 5 star rating in the Restaurant with Rooms sector, by the AA Guide and Visit England
VisitEngland have a team of over 50 trained quality assessors who visit our quality scheme participants, assess the quality of their business and award star ratings and accreditation. AA Hotel Services have been recognising accommodation since 1908 and first introduced the star rating scheme in 1912, recognising and rewarding establishments for the quality and range of their services and facilities.
The AA is the only pan-Britain assessing organisation. In 2018 the AA also took on oversight of Visit England accommodation assessments.
The star rating scheme is probably the most important way that customers choose a hotel or B&B. At a glance, a potential customer can understand that a one-star hotel will provide an informal, basic standard of accommodation while at a five-star hotel will provide more luxurious accommodation and a range of extra facilities.
Visit England and Visit Britain’s quality schemes are available for a range of accommodation types, including hotels, B&Bs, self-catering properties, hostels, holiday parks, campsites and glamping sites, serviced apartments and caravans. Businesses receive either a ‘mystery’ overnight visit or an announced daytime visit, after which the assessor will discuss their findings with the business owner or manager and agree an appropriate star rating or level of accreditation.
This is Quality Assessment you can trust. Both these organisations have been driving quality and standards in the hospitality industry for decades.
The 5 star rating means that Quite Simply French shows awareness of each guest’s needs with nothing being too much trouble. All bedrooms are en suite or have a private bathroom. Excellent quality beds and furnishings. Breakfast includes specials and home-made items, high quality ingredients, and fresh local produce.
Quite Simply French was also awarded an AA Dinner Award and Visit England Highest Quality Food Award, indicating a very special dinner, with an emphasis on freshly prepared local ingredients.
Robert Mason, Owner, Quite Simply French, says:
‘The AA 5 Star rating is the gold standard and it’s a wonderful achievement for us to receive it first time round. Our success is testament to the dedication of our dedicated team and we will continue to invest in our people, our property and our customers. The AA and Visit England are a benchmark for quality in the industry because their inspection process is both credible and transparent, so this accreditation really does mean a great deal to us.

A Thank You from NHS to QSF
“Honestly, what an exceptionally amazing hotel this is. Where do I even begin? If you’re thinking of paying a visit to Lancaster and you are needing somewhere to stay, Quite Simply French has to be the one.
Trust me, there are so many amazing things I can say about this hotel and its kind-hearted owner Robert Mason. Not only did Rob give up his hotel for me, he also accommodated other doctors and nurses who had to leave their homes in order to help our great NHS. I feel so lucky and blessed to have been given the opportunity to stay in this beautiful hotel for absolutely NO cost at all for 3 months during the covid-19 pandemic and I have to say this has been the best room that I have ever stayed in!
If only I could take this room back home with me! There are no words to describe how much I have enjoyed my stay here at the amazing QSF. The room, well WOW! Beautifully decorated boutique style, an extremely comfortable bed and the way everything just fits into place is just simply perfect. Even the simplest of things like the pillows and the duvet were so luxurious that meant after long stressful shifts and seeing countless patients, I always looked forward to having a beautiful sleep every night. The added bath was a beautiful bonus.
The images you see online only give you a partial glimpse of reality as you really do need to see it to believe the sheer opulence that the hotel reflects. Even during lockdown, room service still continued. The hospitality that Rob and his team showed was truly heart-warming. He always made sure that throughout the stay I was always comfortable and ensured that clean linen, towels and bedding were cleaned to hotel standards.
If anyone out there reads this review, and your mind is unsure, just go for it. Not only will you be guaranteed to enjoy your stay, but you will be supporting a local business that has definitely been there for our beloved NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Reviewed June 2020
Visit Britain has launched a UK-wide industry standard and consumer mark, in partnership with the national tourism organisations of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to provide a ‘ring of confidence’ for tourism as the sector works towards reopening.
The ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard and supporting mark means businesses across the sector can demonstrate that they are adhering to the respective Government and public health guidance, have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and check they have the required processes in place.
We completed an assessment to confirm we have put the necessary processes in place, before receiving certification and permission to display the ‘We’re Good To Go’ logo.
Businesses across the UK are required to follow their respective national guidance, including the social distancing and cleanliness protocols that must be in place.
An ‘alert’ system has also been set up to ensure that businesses signed up to the ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard are notified if there are changes to the official guidance. A call-handling service will provide support and assessors will also carry-out random spot-checks to ensure businesses are adhering to the guidance.

Helping NHS staff during COVID-19
We have opened up our rooms for NHS workers to stay during the Covid-19 crisis, with the first batch of hospital staff already staying in the boutique bedrooms.
All our staff at our luxury Restaurant with Rooms have been furloughed after we made the decision to close.
Robert Mason, owner said: “Quite Simply French is dedicated to our local people and I felt we had a duty to step up and support the dedicated NHS workers at this critical time. We are forever in their debt.”
We closed on 21st March for the first time in its 24-year history as part of the national lockdown.
Safe well. Stay stay. Until we meet again.

Perhaps French cheese is one of the most famous in the world. It is not to wonder, since there are over 1,000 types of cheese produced in France, varying between the poignant and strong blue cheese, such as the notorious Roquefort and creamy cheese such as Brie.
There are many things the French are renown for, and their cheesemaking tradition is one of them, keeping to centuries old techniques to produce top quality cheese that will be sold in fromageries and celebrated in different corners of the world.
Camembert, the name comes from the village where it was created in Normandy. It’s origin only dates back to the 18th century, yet despite it’s youth it is one of the most popular and acclaimed French cheese. Brie de Meaux, there are records that document Brie’s existence in the times of time of Charlemagne, back in 774, when he tasted it in a little French city, Brie. It has a soft creamy texture and an almost sweet taste which reminds of certain nuts. The most ancient French cheese is Roquefort, first mentioned (that records remain) in 79 A.D. by Pliny the Elder. It has a very strong and poignant taste and aroma.
Boursin is delicious creamy cheese and favourite of many chefs around the world, it is incorporated into many dishes because of its characteristic taste. Reblochon origins dates back to the middle ages. Its name means “to pinch a cow’s udders again”. It may sound a little strange, but it has an explanation. During the Middle Ages some farmers from the mountains of Haute Savoie decided to outsmart the tax collectors. A number of diaries in Alsace still produce Munster cheese the same centuries old way. Pont l’Eveque was created around the 13th century. It’s original name was d d’Angelot, however it evolved to the name of the Norman village where it’s produced. It is a rich cheese, produced with almost pasteurized milk with a full and salty flavor and soft texture. Original from the heart of burgundy, Epoisses was first produced by monks. It is said that it was one of Napoleon’s favorite cheese. Chèvre means goat. When the Saracens invaded the west of France in the 8th century they brought their goats and left them behind along with instructions of how to produce the cheese.
